A. It is not what ingredients a product contains that are important but how they work together. Tattoo Aftercare® has an exclusive plant based formula and the synergy of the ingredients has created benefits that are greater than the properties of each ingredient, thus making it more than the sum of its parts. This is what makes Tattoo Aftercare® special. You could also bear in mind that Scots are renowned for their blending skills and it was a Scot that put together this recipe.
A. It is international law that the INCI name of an ingredient is used in labelling. Most companies that work with natural ingredients also include the common name. General rule - the more ingredients you can understand on the label the higher the percentage that it will be natural.
A. Baby creams are designed to stop moisture getting to the skin. They are a barrier cream. Barrier creams and this include products such as A & D and Vaseline lock in sebum and any moisture that may come after tattooing. This can cause problems. You should, use an aftercare that allows the skin to breathe.
A. Treat the area gently. During the tattooing process the lymph and sweat glands have been disturbed and they will exude fluid that needs to leave the skin. Trapping that fluid can cause problems. Over application of an aftercare trapping the excess fluid is a common problem. Lightly clean the area with warm water. Dab dry using clean towel or tissue - don’t rub, and allow to air dry for a few minutes. Apply a very light film of aftercare, less is more. Repeat process very gently if required. This will settle down as the healing process begins.
A. No, it is just fluid leaving the body from the glands.
A. No, there are no ingredients in Tattoo Aftercare® that contain properties that draw impurities out of the skin. The most common reason you can pull ink out during the healing process is if you pick at any scabbing.
A. By using a product like Tattoo Aftercare® that contains ingredients that helps prevent itchy skin and scabbing.
A. No. We recommend that you do not use any soap. Warm, plain water is sufficient. Soaps can be drying and can be perfumed. When you are in the shower just wash your body with your normal soap, your body will have adjusted to its PH and use water only on your tattoo. If you need to rinse it during the day again use plain warm water. If you have a wound in hospital that is being dressed, it will be cleaned with either plain water or a saline solution. Nothing else. We don’t recommend that you add salt as the solution used in hospitals is a very weak dilution. Warm plain water – Provided by nature and is free.
A. Your skin has been broken during tattooing and is traumatised so it is possible to have a reaction to any aftercare or soap. The ingredients in Tattoo Aftercare® were specifically chosen for being well known, well documented and safe to use. Read the ingredient list carefully and check for any allergies you may have. Discontinue any product if you should have any irritation at all. Download our Tattoo Care Guide which gives detailed information for using any aftercare product.
A. It is possible to have some problems with skin that has been shaved. Shaving removes the top layer of skin along with the hairs and if an area is particularly hairy, the razor can be brought against the skin a number of times before tattooing begins.
Another problem can be when the hairs grow back in. Sometime they turn back on themselves, other times grow in squint. This can cause pimples, infections and pus. This usually happens 2-3 days after tattooing. There is not much you can do to prevent this as many areas need to be shaved before tattooing. If the area to be tattooed is very hairy discuss with your tattooist about preparing this area beforehand. Most artists use disposable razors and trials have shown these are actually the best to use.
A. Yes, Most people have no problems when getting tattooed. Choose a good artist, a clean studio and a quality aftercare and the only thing you should need to worry about is the design of your tattoo. :-)
